Marking The Occasion serves as an archive and extension of work begun during a 2019 Watershed Residency. The residency included artists, performers, and dancers who collaborated to share their practices in writing and movement. The resulting publication, curated and edited by participants Jaime Shearn Coan and Tara Aisha Willis, chronicles this event through maps, journal entries, lists, post-it notes, manifestos, photographs, and essays—all various forms of marking their moments in community. Marking The Occasion feels remarkably full, saturated with marginalia. The book is a performance itself that Jaime Shearn Coan describes as “giving form to our time together.”
